Eraser Gesture not working in latest Illustrator CC

#1

I am new to Astropad Studio and am having difficulty getting the eraser gesture (one finger down with Apple pencil) to work.

I tested it in Photoshop and it works fine. I drew something with the brush tool and then erased it by holding one finger down while using the pencil. Unfortunately, when I do the same in Illustrator, it simply draws more stuff with whatever tool I have selected. The only way I am able to erase is by selecting the eraser tool (shift + E) and using it directly without the gesture.

Is this the expected behaviour for Illustrator, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

Hi Dave,

And this is Illustrator CC 2018 version? What Mac OS is in use?
Also, are there any Wacom drivers installed on your system? If so, is it the latest version?

If you try changing two finger w/Apple Pencil gesture to Eraser, does the same thing happen?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Malyse.

To answer your questions:

  1. I am using Illustrator CC 2018 with latest updates.
  2. I am using MacOS 10.13.4
  3. I have the latest Wacom drivers installed.
  4. Changing the eraser to the two-finger gesture does not change anything.

Thanks for your help!

Dave

Thanks for checking this.

Still not able to reproduce this issue on our end.

Would recommend trying a Preferences reset for Illustrator:

How to do this –
Hold Option + Command + Shift as you start Illustrator.
It will prompt to delete the current settings.

Let us know if there is any change with this.

I know this threat is a few months old, but I’m also experiencing this same issue with the eraser. I’m also a new Astropad user. I’ve tried Option + Command + Shift when opening Illustrator.

  1. I am using Illustrator CC 2018 with latest updates.
  2. I am using MacOS 10.13.6
  3. I am not using Wacom drivers, but iPad Pro (2nd Gen) with apple pencil. iOS 11.4.1 (up to date)
  4. Changing the eraser to the two-finger gesture does not change anything.

Thanks!

@Tron_Johnson Thanks for the added details.

Is Eraser the only gesture not working?
Does drawing and other mouse functions work fine?

Is there any customized shortcut commands set for eraser at all?

On your iPad go to Settings,
then general, select Accessibility and is any of the Zoom settings turned on?
If so, please try turning it all off and see if there is any difference.

If no change please try a factory reset for Astropad:
Close Astropad’s Mac app.
Then hold option/alt key, while opening the Mac app again.
It will ask if you want a factory reset.
